Sound description: Anyone who has heard Ad Astra Per Aspera recognizes the sound immediately: a frantic demonstration of noise and melody clashing wholeheartedly. Points of reference include Sonic Youth and Blonde Redhead, but Ad Astra’s best attribute is its ability to sound more and more like itself.

RIYL: Sonic Youth, the Boredoms

History:

Birthed in Lawrence, Kansas in 2001, Ad Astra Per Aspera began playing shows in the fall of 2002. Their debut EP, "An Introduction To" was released in April 2003 and they immediately set out on a tour of sporadic proportions. In the winter of 2003 they began recording their follow-up EP, "Cubic Zirconia" and it was released in May 2004 on Big Brown Shark Records. More Midwestern touring followed. Ad Astra Per Aspera are now hard at work on their debut full-length which will likely see the light of day in the fall of 2005. Expect more touring, better shows, and hopefully more reliable transportation. Ad Astra Per Aspera has been described by some as "the greatest, ever" and by other as "almost the greatest, ever." They are currently "making a name for themselves" and look forward to a Fleetwood Mac-esque meltdown in five to eight years.
